How Business Days Calculator Works

The tool steps through every calendar day from your start date to your end date, inclusive, and checks each one against the calendar's day-of-week. Saturdays and Sundays are skipped, and every Monday through Friday is added to the running total — public holidays are not taken into account, since they vary by country and organization.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter the start date of the period you want to measure.
  2. Enter the end date.
  3. Select Count Business Days to see the total working days, along with the weekend days and calendar days in between.

Example

From Friday, 21 August 2026 to Tuesday, 25 August 2026 is 5 calendar days, but only 3 business days — Friday, Monday and Tuesday — since Saturday and Sunday fall in between and are excluded.

Helpful Tips

  • If your start and end date are the same weekday, the count includes that single day as 1 business day.
  • This tool counts Monday through Friday only — it doesn't exclude public holidays, since these vary widely by country and region.
  • Swap the start and end dates if you see an error — the end date needs to fall on or after the start date.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the start and end dates both included in the count?
Yes — if they fall on a weekday, both the start date and the end date count toward the total, as long as the end date is on or after the start date.
Does this account for public holidays?
No. It only excludes Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays differ by country, so factor them in separately if they apply to you.
What if my end date is before my start date?
The tool will show an error asking you to swap the two dates, since business days can only be counted forward.
What counts as a weekend in this tool?
Saturday and Sunday are always treated as the weekend, regardless of your locale's working-week convention.
