How Discount Calculator Works

The calculator multiplies the original price by (1 minus the discount rate) to get the final price, then subtracts the final price from the original to show the amount saved.

How to Use This Tool

  1. Enter the item's original price.
  2. Enter the discount percentage being offered.
  3. Select Calculate to see the final price and the amount you save.

Example

An item priced at $80.00 with a 25% discount comes to a final price of $60.00, saving you $20.00.

Helpful Tips

  • For stacked discounts (e.g. 20% off, then an extra 10%), run the calculator twice, feeding the first result back in as the new original price.
  • A discount of 100% or more will always show a final price of $0.00 or less — the tool caps it sensibly rather than showing a negative price.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the final price calculated?
Final price = original price × (1 − discount% ÷ 100). For a 25% discount, you pay 75% of the original price.
Can I calculate two discounts applied one after another?
Yes — calculate the first discount, then enter the resulting price as the new original price for the second discount. Stacked percentages don't simply add together.
What if the discount is more than 100%?
That isn't a realistic discount, so the tool will flag it as invalid input above 100%.
Does this include sales tax?
No, this calculates the discount only. Add tax separately if it applies in your case.
